Strangely Official

3 BBL Electric System w/ Control Panel
Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s been some time since the last post, so I wanted to share a brief(ish?) update.

You might be wondering- What the heck have you been up to?

Here’s the TLDR version:

  • The production facility is finalized and we have a fully operational 3 Barrel (BBL) electric brew system:
    • Power to the barn was upgraded from 100A to 200A to accommodate the power needs.
    • Designed (under heavy guidance from my electrical engineer bro-in-law Paul), Sourced & Built an electrical panel that can control four 5.5 kw elements at once.  It has float switches for built-in safety and is programmable so that it will precisely control and maintain temperature.
    • Most importantly, the system works well and makes great beer!
  • I have made two different batches on the production system and both turned out really well:
    • Calibrator Blonde Ale
    • Miserly Whip Milk Stout
  • We have put some “feelers” out to local businesses about putting these 2 beers on tap, so hopefully more to report on that front soon.
  • I have submitted paperwork to finalize labeling and branding for these beers at the State and Federal levels.  Federal is approved, but still waiting on the State.
  • Once all of the designs are approved we are also looking to put together some 4-packs of cans.

In other big news, we have officially joined the Michigan Brewer’s Guild!  We are thrilled to be part of such a great organization that advocates for Michigan breweries.  I have some other big news to share along this front but I think I’ll save it for a future post.  Things are starting to look strangely official around here… 😉

Lastly, I wanted to take a moment to just say THANK YOU for your continued support and patience!

Admittedly, it has been SLOW process getting here.  This remains (for now at least) a part-time endeavor and a certain global pandemic significantly delayed approvals and essential supplies for the brewery.  Time is finite and unfortunately these updates tend to fall to the back-burner (time spent at the keyboard is time I’m not making beer or doing some other critical task for the brewery).  The distance between “brewery-in-planning” and “active production brewery” felt truly astronomical at times and we certainly couldn’t have made the journey without all of your support!

We are shaping up to have an exciting Late Summer/Fall season ahead of us, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for more updates!
